Class Levels



Ice Dance 101

The dance program focuses on the components of ice dancing and reviews the basic edges and turns while skating to music. Skaters will learn beginning level dances as well as dance related moves including: dance partner positions, progressives, chasses, swing rolls, three turns and mohawks. Skaters must have completed Basic Skills Level 8 or Adult 4 before entering this class.

Snowplow Sam I, II, III

These levels are designed to help 3-5 year old skaters develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice. Curriculum at these levels include developing proper ways to fall and get up on ice, marching, gliding, dipping wiggles, forward swizzles, two-foot hops in place, curves and basic stop techniques.

Basic 1
a. Sit on ice and stand up.
b. March forward across the ice.
c. Forward two-foot glide.
d. Dip.
e. Forward swizzles 6-8 in a row.
f. Backward wiggles 6-8 in a row.
g. Snowplow stop.
h. Rocking horse 2-3.
i. Two-foot hop.
Basic 2
a. Forward one-foot glide R&L.
b.
Backward two-foot glide.
c.
Backward swizzles 6-8 in a row.
d.
Two-foot turn from forward to backward in place.
e.
Moving snowplow stop.
f.
Forward alternation 1/4 swizzle pumps, in a straight line.
Basic 3
a. Forward stroking, showing correct use of blade.
b. Forward swizzle pumps on a circle 6-9 consecutive-clockwise & counter clockwise.
c.
Moving forward to backward two-foot turn-clockwise & counter clockwise.
d.
Backward one-foot glides R&L.
e.
Forward Slalom.
f.
Two-foot spin up to 2 revolutions.
Basic 4
a. Forward outside edge on a circle R&L.
b. Forward inside edge on a circle R&L.
c.
Forward crossovers- clockwise & counter clockwise.
d.
Forward outside three-turn R&L from stand still position.
e.
Backward swizzle pumps on a circle- clockwise & counter clockwise.
f.
Backward stroking.
g.
Backward snowplow stop R&L.
Basic 5
a. Backward outside edge on a circle R&L.
b. Backward inside edge on a circle R&L.
c.
Backward crossovers clockwise & counter clockwise.
d.
Beginning one-foot spin-up to 3 revolutions.
e.
Hockey stop.
f.
Side tow hop- both directions.
Basic 6
a. Forward inside three-turn R&L from a stand still position.
b.
Moving backward to forward two-turn on a circle- clockwise & counter clockwise.
c.
T-Stop R&L.
d.
Bunny hop.
e.
Forward arabesque/spiral on a straight line R&L.
f.
Forward lunge R&L.
Basic 7
a. Forward inside open Mohawk form a standstill position R to L & L to R.
b.
Backward outside edge to forward outside edge transition on a circle R&L.
c.
Ballet jump R&L.
d.
Backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glides (landing Position) - clockwise & counter clockwise.
e.
Forward inside pivots - R or L.
Basic 8
a. Moving forward outside three-turn on a circle - R & L.
b.
Moving forward inside three-turn on a circle - R & L.
c.
Combination move, Forward crossovers (2) into forward inside Mohawk, cross behind, step into backward crossover (1)and step into forward inside edge-repeat 3 times - clockwise & counter clockwise.
d.
One foot upright spin, optional entry & free foot position.
e.
Waltz jump.
f.
Mazurka - R & L.

Adult 3
Backward edges on a circle; backward crossovers; inside mohawk; basic forward inside and forward outside consecutive edges; forward progressives; footwork sequence: beginning with a two foot swizzle, to a forward progressive, followed by a forward chasse, ending with a two foot side lunge around in a small circle; beginning two foot spin
Adult 4
Forward three turns, perimeter stroking with crossover end patterns, forward outside to inside change of edge sequence, alternate backward crossovers with two foot transition; footwork sequence; power three turns; backward chasse on a circle

FreeSkate 2
Back outside and back inside consecutive edges; forward outside and forward inside spirals; continuous forward progressive chasse sequence; waltz threes; beginning back spin; waltz jump, side toe hop, waltz jump sequence; toe loop
FreeSkate 3
Forward and backward crossovers in a figure eight pattern; waltz eight; advanced forward consecutive swing rolls; backward inside 3-turn, back spin with free foot in crossed leg position; salchow; half lutz jump; waltz jump/toe loop combo or salchow/toe loop combo
FreeSkate 4
Spiral sequence incorporating spirals and mohawks; forward power 3-turns; continuous backward progressive chasse sequence on a circle; sit spin; loop jump; waltz jump/loop jump combination
FreeSkate 5
Backward outside 3-turn, mohawk into 3 backward crossovers; spiral sequence incorporating 3-turns and crossovers, forward outside slide chasse swing roll; camel spin; upright spin to back scratch spin; loop/loop combination; flip jump; waltz jump/falling leaf/toe loop jump sequence
FreeSkate 6
Alternating back crossovers to back outside edges; advanced mohawk sequence; camel/sit spin combination; split jump; waltz jump/half loop/salchow; lutz jump; axle preparation

Theater on Ice
For skaters who have completed Basic 3. The excitement of theater and dance is combined with the grace of figure skating to create Theater on Ice. Skaters develop the dramatic side of their skating and are part of a team while continuing to use their technical skills.

Syncronized Skate
For skaters who have completed Basic 4. This program introduces skaters to the basics of team synchronized skating and teaches elementary hand holds, formations, and transitions.
