Summertime FUN!

The following is a list of various Camps and Clinics that will take place throughout the summer at the Rockville Ice Arena.  Camps offer a variety of options and services that are geared toward a safe and enjoyable experience for the participant.  The Rockville Ice Arena’s mandate is to offer only top quality instruction and care for our clients and restricts the usage of our facility to camps that we are familiar with and adhere to our mandate.  If you have any questions regarding our camps please call 301.315.5650 ext. 11.

Rockville Ice Arena Summer Day Sports Camp – June 22 – Aug. 28

A weekly program for children ages 5 to 13 that offers a variety of sports including hockey, skating, broomball, basketball, soccer, kickball, etc.  Full day camp with meals included.  Multi-week discounts are available. Call 301.316.5650 or download the registration form.

Learn-to-Skate Group Lessons – July 11 to Aug. 23

This is a seven week program that offers skating instruction from Beginners to adults.  Participants receive a 30 minute instruction per week along with a skating pass for 7 free public skating admissions.  Whether the skaters future is a hockey player or figure skater this program is a necessity for those who want to participate at a higher level in either sport.

Hockey Initiation Program  – July 11 to Aug.22

Sponsored by the Washington Capitals this program runs each Saturday and is geared to introduce the player to the game of hockey that will teach him/her skills necessary to eventually join the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association program.  Players must be able to skate at a basic 2 level (balance, able to move forward/backwards, etc.).  This is a 2 tiered program with the player receiving helmets/cages, shin pads and gloves during the first session  and shoulder pads, elbow pads and pants prior to the second session.  Upon completion of the 2 sessions the player can keep all of the equipment that is assigned to him/her.  (Bags, sticks and skates can be purchased at DRM Sports at the Rockville Ice Arena.

Christian Yngve Goalie Clinic- June 21 and 22nd and August 22 and 23rd

Coach Christian is offering 2 specialized goaltending camps on the above dates.  The clinic includes 4 ice sessions and 2 off ice sessions and is geared towards existing and future goaltenders from MYHA.  Contact Christian at christianyngve@yahoo.com or the information will be on the MYHA website at www.myha.org

Turcotte Stickhandling School – July 6 – 10

Returning for the 10th season Turcotte offers a program to develop stickhandling and individual skills for players of all levels.  This is a half-day camp for various age groups.  Call 1.800.732.2894 or www.turcottehockey.com

Top Gun Hockey School- July 13 – 17

This is a full day camp complete with meal plan.  Instructors include current Chicago Black Hawk assistant coach Ted Dent and former Ohio State standout Paul Tilley.  Top Gun specializes in providing quality instruction to enhance the players’ overall skill and team structure development.  Call 954.821.5046 or visit www.tghockeyschool.com

Sports International Hockey Academy- August 17 – 21

SIHA are offering camps at Rockville Ice Arena for the first time although they have been in the area for over 20 years.  They are running camps on June 29 to July 2 and August 10 to 14 which are completely sold out and have added a third week from Aug. 17 – 24.  Call 1.800.724.6658 or visit www.siha.com.

Nothing But Net Hockey Skills Camp – Aug. 24 to 28

Featuring instruction from Coach Rob Keegan this camp is geared toward the overall development and improvement to a players’ game.  All aspects of the game are covered and the camp will also include Power Skating instruction from Marianne Watkins of ProPower Skating Schools.  Contact Coach Rob at 301.704.3866 or visit www.nothingbutnethockey.com

Marianne Watkins ProPower Skating Clinic – Sept. 4, 5, and 6th

Taking place over Labor Day weekend and just prior to the commencement of the 2009-2010 season, this camp specializes in all aspects of skating development including technique, flexibility, edge/body control, foot speed, efficiency, etc.  An ideal camp for those who have been off the ice all summer and for those trying out for various teams and leagues.  (this is not a Learn-to-Skate program).  A specialized Adult camp is also available.  Contact Gary Watkins at 301.315.5650 ext. 11.
